Arizona Education Board Attorney | AZ School Lawyer

The job of the Arizona State Board of Education is to regulate the conduct of the public school system.  More importantly the Board imposes on teachers disciplinary action, including the issuance of a letter of censure, suspension, suspension with conditions or revocation of a certificate, on a finding of immoral or unprofessional conduct. The Board’s rules provide that certificate holders who violate any provision of relevant Arizona (AZ) law may be deemed to have engaged in immoral or unprofessional conduct and may be disciplined by the Board.  This disciplinary action can result in the teacher losing their license to teach in Arizona (AZ). Chelle Law’s Arizona Education Board Attorney has represented over 1000 professionals before Arizona Licensing Boards and have the professional licensing defense experience needed to defend the rights of teachers. Our office assists:

  • Pre K-12 Teaching Certificates
  • Substitute Certificates
  • JROTC Certificates
  • Alternative Teaching
  • Adult Education Certificates
  • International Teaching
  • Career and Technical Education Certificates
  • Administrative Certificates
  • Professional Non-Teaching
  • Emergency Certificates

AZ School Board Complaint

The Professional Practices Advisory Committee (“PPAC“), conducts hearings for the Board against certificate holders where allegations of  unprofessional conduct have been made.  PPAC can review initial certification applications, certification renewals, and conduct hearings regarding complaints filed against existing certificate holders.  After each case, PPAC makes recommendations to the AZ Board to either approve or deny an application for certification; or make a recommendation that a certificate holder should have disciplinary action imposed on their certificate.

PPAC Recommendations for Arizona’s Education Boards

In a complaint hearing, the PPAC may recommend to the State Board of Education any of the following disciplines on an educator’s certificate(s):

  • Letter of Censure
  • Suspension
  • Suspension with conditions
  • Revocation of certificate

Legal Discipline Search

The Arizona Board of Education offers a searchable database listing all outcomes of disciplinary proceedings of certificate holders.  This list shows the following discipline:

PERMANENT REVOCATION CERTIFICATION PERMANENTLY REVOKED PURSUANT TO A.R.S. § 15-550
REVOCATION CERTIFICATION REVOKED FOR 5 YEARS
LETTER OF CENSURE RECORD PLACED IN PERMANENT FILE
VOLUNTARY SURRENDER EDUCATOR MAY NOT REAPPLY FOR CERTIFICATION FOR A PERIOD OF 5 YEARS
NEGOTIATED SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT (NSA) DISCIPLINE IMPOSED UNDER NEGOTIATED TERMS
APPLICATION REVIEW APPLICATION SUBJECT TO EITHER APPROVAL OR DENIAL
